We’re pleased to announce that Kristen Arnett has selected THE GHOSTS OF OTHER IMMIGRANTS: STORIES by Maija Mäkinen of Brooklyn, NY, to receive the 2021 New American Fiction Prize!
A Finnish-born writer and translator, Maija’s stories, essays, and poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The Iowa Review; Short, Vigorous Roots (Ooligan Press); Porterhouse Review; The Bare Life Review; and others. She received the 2020 Iowa Review Award in Fiction, the University of Cambridge Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize, and residency fellowships to Writers Omi and the Studios of Key West. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Boston University.
