2023 New American Poetry Prize Submission Deadline Extended to February 15

The deadline for submissions to the 2023 New American Poetry Prize has been extended to February 15, 2023.

The winning manuscript will be published and its author will receive $1500, promotional support, and 25 author copies. Manuscripts should be at least 48 pages, but there is no maximum length. All forms and styles of poetry are welcome.

We read manuscripts blind, so please exclude identifying information from the manuscript itself. All necessary contact information is included in your Submittable record. We do not accept submissions by email or post. Please use Submittable to send your work.

Final judge this year is JAMAICA BALDWIN. Jamaica (she/her) is a poet and educator originally from Santa Cruz, California. Her first book, Bone Language, will be published by YesYes Books in 2023. Her work has appeared in Guernica, World Literature Today, The Adroit Journal, The Massachusetts Review, and The Missouri Review, among others. Her accolades include a 2022 Pushcart Prize, 2021 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the 2021 RHINO Poetry Editors’ Prize, and a Glenna Luschei Prairie Schooner Award. Her writing has been supported by Hedgebrook, Furious Flower, and the Jack Straw Writers program. Jamaica is currently the associate editor of Prairie Schooner at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she is pursuing her PhD in English with a focus on poetry and Women’s and Gender Studies.
